At Autumn Creek Ranch, we raise two rare breeds of sheep – the Navajo Churro and the Cotswold. Both yield amazing lamb and wonderful fiber. Check out our two breeds below:
We love our Navajo-Churro Sheep. We value them for both their amazing meat and awesome wool!
Here is what the Slow Food Ark of Taste has to say about Navajo-Churro sheep:
“The Navajo-Churro sheep boasts many valuable traits. The meat is lean with a distinctive, sweet flavor. In addition to quality meat production, these sheep provide abundant milk and have a highly desirable dual fiber fleece. The sheep is hardy, living lightly on the land and requiring less water and forage than other sheep. The sheep is long legged with a narrow body and fine bones. The coat is prized by weavers for its variant array of natural colors.”
New to our farm are amazing Cotswold Sheep. They have a lovely, curly fiber and very mild lamb, even at an older age. Here is what the Cotswold Sheep Breeders Association has to say about them:
“The Cotswold is a large, polled breed, with ewes weighing up to 200 pounds and rams 300 pounds. The ewes are excellent mothers, with few birthing problems and quick to accept lambs. They are a very friendly sheep and there is definitely a queenly quality about the ewes.
The meat has a very mild flavor and aroma. It has been proven that long wool sheep have a less muttony flavor than fine wooled breeds. Cotswolds are easy to raise and do well on coarser feeds and are excellent foragers and can thrive in harsh climates, even with a lot of rainfall.”
We sell lambs by the whole, half and in cuts. Price for whole and half lambs are $6.50/lb hanging weight. This price includes all butcher fees and processing. Our lamb is 100% grass fed. In the warmer months, they are rotated several times a week on our grass and clover pastures. In the winter they are fed fodder, locally grown alfalfa hay and grass hay.
We require a $100 deposit for whole lambs and a $50 deposit for halves. Most of our cuts will be sold at the Liberty Lake Farmers Market but if you are looking for anything in particular, let us know.
